AMSHIP Receives Three More T-5 Tankers Bringing Total To $300-Million

The American Ship Building Company confirmed recently that it had received notification from Ocean Carriers, Inc., of Houston, Texas, that the option for an additional three T-5 Tankers that are to be chartered to the Military Sealift Command has been exercised by the U.S. Navy. This brings the total contract to five T-5 Tankers with a total construction cost of approximately $300 million.

Executive vice president and chief operating officer H. Allen Fernstrom stated, "Naturally, we at American Ship are extremely pleased that the option has been exercised. This is the largest contract, government or otherwise, that The American Ship Building Company has ever been granted. It will be a great boost to activity levels at the shipyards for the next three years, and will mean that employment levels at the yards will be increased dramatically. We are very I appreciative of the confidence that Ocean Carriers, Inc. and U.S. Navy has shown in us."
